I have been seeing some strange things happening in the last few years. Chaos magicians invoking entities from Dungeons and Dragons books. People being "possessed" by Transformers. The stories of H.P. Lovecraft becoming a religion.
It seems that there is a legion of Neo-Wights and Neo-Gods rising from the brackish pits of Chaos. Yet I stay true to the Old Ways which seems to give me a sense of Order in a vast world of chaos and distintegration.
Is the idea of "new gods" and "new wights" anything new? Evidence points to the fact that these things happen all the time. Voodoo, for an example, has a new god named Kriminal. This particular god seemed to of been born in the black ghettos and manifests himself in gangsta rappers and gangbangers. He is very much like Loki, indeed, Loki himself was a newcomer to the Northern European Pantheon. He came when things started to fall apart. Are the birth Loki and Kriminal signs of a culture and a people that are in a state of degeneration?
What about people becoming possessed by Transformers or the Incredible Hulk? Can manufactured entities take a life of their own and invade the psyches of others? It seems that when an artist creates a character, it takes a life in his or her own mind, and when he or she transmits it to others, they become alive in these peoples minds. They then begin to fascinate and take hold of their minds and give shape to their personalities.
Maybe the otherworld is constantly changing. Maybe the otherworld is far more vast than we can imagine. What did the Shinto preists mean when they said that there are over a million gods? Millions of gods, millions of wights, flowing and traveling through a vast web which contains millions of worlds.
This can drive you into madness if you contemplate it. That is why we need Tradition, to keep these chaotic and meaningless forces at bay and be guided by the few and the true forces that bring a sense of reason, life, and meaning. It is to the Esa and Wena that I give my loyalty.

…Or maybe people will believe whatever they will, whether their personal “belief” makes any sense or not. IIRC it was Edred Thorsson who once wrote: “If you believe it you are psychotic; but if you can convince lots of other people to believe it you have a religion.” Hmmm… But even it it’s called “religion” it does not necessarily mean that it’s true.
Does the Otherworld change? Of course it does! It evolves and grows just like this world does. But does that mean that I can be possessed by a fictional character? When I start shooting missiles out of my hands I may change my mind, but until then…
